AT A GLANCE

Hajoth Hakados is one of the oldest cities in Numeria. Originally founded by the Black Horse clan over nine thousand years ago. Hajoth Hakados was a jewel in the crown of the kingdom of Sarkoris long before Numeria was its own sovereign territory. With the fall of Sarkoris it has become one of the last standing remnants of the ancient Kellid kingdoms of the north.

Up until the last century, Hajoth Hakados had laid as a ruin after multiple sackings from rival clans, giants, pirates, and an exodus of Kellid from the north following the collapse of Sarkoris. By the time Lady Altouna arrived the city had no formal leadership and a massive influx of foreign crusaders passing by on their way to the Worldwound. Lady Altouna and her confidant Cythrul turned disaster into opportunity, and within thirty years turned Hajoth Hakados into a mercantile and military power.

Hajoth Hakados prospers from its reputation for tolerance and neutrality toward disparate groups, such as the Pathfinder Society (who maintain a lodge here), the Aspis Consortium, numerous churches, Kellid clans, and mercenary groups like the Steel Phalanx. Violence between rival factions is kept in check through economic and military means. Groups who eschew Hajoth Hakados’s political neutrality swiftly find themselves charged exorbitant fees for even the most mundane supplies, or cut off from trade altogether. Members of the Technic League are not welcome inside the walls of Hajoth Hakados, and are removed from the city if discovered. As such, Hajoth Hakados does not pay taxes to the Black Sovereign and blatantly challenge the Technic League's influence. Hajoth Hakados and its residents take pride in their free city and will do anything to defend it.

RECENT EVENTS

While Lady Altouna and her confidant Cythrul rule Hajoth Hakados with a clear vision for the city's future in a free and prosperous Numeria, they are not only concerned with mercantile affairs. Hajoth Hakados is the end point of an underground network run by Lady Altouna that seeks to shepherd slaves out of Numeria into the River Kingdoms. She and Cythrul have gone to great lengths to provide safety and security for any and all who wish to live a free life, at great risk. The Technic League suspects this network's existance, and if Hajoth Hakados were to ferry a particularly valuable slave out of the League's hands, it could turn a cold conflict between the two powers into out-and-out war.

Though altruistic, Lady Altouna is also an opportunist. Rather than fight piracy in the region, she has aligned herself with the Blood Gar clan of Kellid river pirates that have plagued the River Kingdoms for decades. In exchange for offering the Gars safe harbor, Hajoth Hakados and its ships are protected on open waters and no piracy occurs within Numerian borders. But as the Blood Gar get more bold in their raids on the River Kingdoms, only to retreat behind Hajoth Hakados' high walls, it has significantly hindered the city's reputation in the south.
